InTheWack Is Now A Social Network

Yes, it’s true. It’s actually always been my plan to make this a social network, but I just haven’t had the time to convert it. Truthfully, I still don’t have the time, but I woke up this morning and felt like trying to do it. What that means is that you can now have friends, create groups, send messages, write on each other’s walls, etc, all from this site.

If you’re interested in what happened under the hood, here goes. This site was based on WordPress up until about 6 hours ago. WordPress is great if you want a single blog administered by a few individuals, but doesn’t really work well past that. So the first step was converting this site into WordPress MU, which allows essentially an unlimited number of blogs on a installation. After that, I added the BuddyPress framework, which essentially converts WordPress MU into a full social network similar to Facebook. BuddyPress was actually created by my friend, Andy Peatling, and it’s really an amazing accomplishment. The hard part was actually re-theming the default BuddyPress theme into something that looked like InTheWack.com — it still needs lots of work, but it’s getting there.

I still have a bit of work to do, but it’s coming together. If you’d like to invite your friends, you can Tweet an invitation here. Feel free to email me any feedback or suggestions.
