New Coopers Store Officially Opens In Garrison Crossing

I just got back from the friends and family event down at the new Coopers store in Garrison Crossing. The store was pretty much jam packed with friends, family, media, and a few distinguished dignitaries, including the head of Overwaitea Foods and Chilliwack’s mayor, Sharon Gaetz.

I’ve been anxiously awaiting the store for various reasons, the most important of which is that I literally live a block from the store, and will now be able to walk to get all of my groceries. It’s going to be quite the treat being able to simple stroll through a little forest on my way to pick up some milk or a nice steak for dinner. I didn’t time myself, but I’d be surprised if the walk took me any more than four or five minutes.

I was told by various people that the store is slightly larger than the Save On Foods in Vedder Crossing. I can’t say for certain, but it’s definitely close. The store is obviously really clean, and has a very inviting atmosphere. One area that stood out is a little deli near the back, and I suspect that you’ll be able to purchase a few items and eat them right in the store.

The layout of the store reminds me a bit of the Save On Foods, although I don’t recall seeing an area where you could purchase bulk foods apparently the bulk foods are by the produce section. There was a family foods section at the far end, close to the deli and the bakery, which is nice for families that like to purchase bigger items to save money.

A few individuals gave speeches, one of which was Steve van der Leest, the head of Overwaitea foods. After the speech, he presented the store manager with the key to the store. Shortly afterwards, Sharon Gaetz (the mayor of Chilliwack) helped with the official ribbon cutting.

I strolled around the store a few times, and am definitely looking forward to making an official shopping trip there in the next few days. Given that I was right next to the cashier when they opened their tills for business, and that nachos are pretty much my favourite food, I thought it would be fun to purchase the very first bag of nachos at the new Coopers store.

Unless I’m mistaken, the store is now officially opened, albeit with reduced operating hours until this weekend. The official grand opening in this Saturday, so make sure you head down and check it out. Welcome to the neighbourhood, Coopers!
