On The Road To Spring

This last year, I’ve become far more interested in eating healthy. To that end, I find I frequent a lot more farmer’s markets out here in Chilliwack, and spend a bit more time shopping for quality food as opposed to cheap food. The other day I drove out to Mt. Lehman Farm in Abbotsford and bought my first batch of beef directly from the farm. That’s a luxury that’s not available to most people in Vancouver, and something I think more people should take advantage of.
In a supermarket, you rarely know where any food is coming from, or how the animals were treated. If you can go to a farm yourself, not only is there accountability with the source of your food (if you get sick, you know exactly who to talk to), but you can form a real relationship with the person responsible for producing the food, which ultimately influences the health of people in your household.
I’ve been working on a few small local food initiatives that I’d like to kick off, but I need to get a bit further along before doing so. But without a doubt I’m going to start profiling and focusing on small and medium sized businesses in Chilliwack, so that everyone can understand what’s available, and who the people are behind the businesses.
