Apparently there's a Canadian Monopoly game coming soon. In order to determine the cities that will be represented in the game, there's currently a big vote going on. I can't seem to tell how Chilliwack is doing, but if you're in Chilliwack (or think it would be a cool city on the map), then head on over and vote at the official Monopoly voting site. Let's all try and get Chilliwack on the map! Read more...

Heavenly Cheese

The other day I suddenly had the urge to make homemade poutine at home. For those of you who aren't familiar with it, poutine is a Quebec-based food invention consisting of french fries smothered in cheese curds and gravy. While many restaurants serve poutine with cheddar or mozzarella cheese, the original uses fresh cheese curds, and it tastes so much better. I tried various establishments throughout Chilliwack, and none of them had what I was looking for. I was told about a smaller cheese shop on Barrow road in Sardis called Heavenly Cheese, so I decided to go ... Read more...

Chilliwack Web Design

While I don't technically have an office (who does nowadays?), I am a full time web developer for a company I co-own called BraveNewCode. My partner is a guy named Dale who lives out in Hamilton, Ontario. We spend a good portion of our days doing work together over iChat, and have special cell-phone plans that let us talk to each other whenever we want without worrying about long distance charges. While I sometimes work from home, it's just as likely you'll run into me at a local coffee shop, or when the weather's nice, a ... Read more...

Pala Lago At Cultus Lake

As someone who works virtually, I'm always on the lookout for trendy establishments that offer free wireless access. Yesterday I was hanging out with a few of my friends from Vancouver, and we decided to head up to Cultus Lake for a few drinks at a pub across from the waterslides. The establishment is called Pala Lago, and it's truly a little gem (I just found their website too, and it's actually fairly modern). Without a doubt, it has one of the nicest patios of any restaurant I've been to in a long time. I sure hope they ... Read more...

Garrison Village

I went down to Garrison Village today to take a look around, and also scope out some office space. It's really hard to gauge 900 square feet when the construction is still ongoing. I'm still debating what to do, but it sounds like the rent in the area has been reduced a bit more, which makes it a bit more enticing. I did however learn about some of the tenants in the area. Here's a partial list of what's been leased already: The freestanding structure in the center of Garrison Village will be Waves Coffee, the first ... Read more...

Shared Office Space, Part Two

So, I've been tossing this idea around in my head off and on for the past few weeks. I received a few emails from people who were interested in possibly renting some office space if I were to go through with a venture of this nature. To give you some context, I typically spend about 50% of my day working out of various coffee shops. Not only do I see lots of other business people doing the same thing, but I run into lots of students as well, most of which are using laptops or studying. So ... Read more...

Shared Office Space In Garrison Crossing

Ever since the new Coopers opened in Garrison Crossing, I've been doing most of my grocery shopping there. Right past it thought is an area of new commercial space, and it always reminds me of Whistler Village whenever I walk by. Truthfully, I've been debating getting a little office out here, partially to get me out of the house, and partially because I think it would be pretty cool to have a creative space. I'm going to call a realtor tomorrow and start pricing out a few options in that area. If anyone was following my Blogathon efforts ... Read more...
