Trail Running in Sardis: Thornton Creek Trail

I recently discovered that I didn't hate jogging as much as I thought I did. This came as quite a shock, since I have avoided running for years (much to the detriment of my derriere.) I have started doing easy access, moderate difficulty trail running in my neighbourhood, and so far, it has been fantastic. I'm not sure whether it's the thrill of becoming potential snack food for Yogi and BooBoo, or if it is the communing with nature (while my iPod blares the soothing sounds of Motley Crue over the screams of territorial crows and greedy squirrels) but I ... Cultus Lake – Campfire Ban Lifted

Shhh. Did you hear that? That was the cheering of the die-hard campers down at Cultus Lake, who have been living without campfires for nearly the entire 2009 camping season. The ban has been lifted! The ban has been lifted! With the local forests being a virtual tinderbox this summer, banning open fires from all campgrounds in the province was a prudent move on behalf of BC Parks & BC Forest Service. Necessary or not, putting the kibosh on campfires seriously detracted from the ambiance and tradition of  campfire cooking. Who doesn't cherish the memories of  speared hotdogs on pointy sticks, seared to ... Read more...

For Sale!

I have a pile of things at home that I really want to sell and be rid of. Here's a partial list: Quad core server with 1.0TB of RAID5 storage. Currently running Centos. Was used mostly as a development web server. I'm just selling the server, but if you want this, I can toss in a LCD monitor as well. No keyboard or mouse. Canon EOS 20D Digital SLR camera Another single core computer currently running XP. I'll have to check the specs. Doesn't come with a monitor, keyboard or mouse (just the machine) Apple TV I'll ... Chilliwack Adopt-A-Road Program

Chilliwack is an obscenely beautiful city. Graced with soaring mountains, pastoral fields, crystalline lakes and rivers - the environment around us is the envy of many. The Wack is an attractive playground for people from around the world, and they come here to frolic in our backyard. Tourism Chilliwack's billboards along Highway 1 beckon motorists to come and play in the "great outside" and depict the pristine eco-wonderland that surrounds us. So why is our city so dirty? A quick drive down any of the major roadways in the city is telling. Litter is strewn along the sidewalks and curbs. Plastic bags ... Read more...

Chilliwack Web Design

While I don't technically have an office (who does nowadays?), I am a full time web developer for a company I co-own called BraveNewCode. My partner is a guy named Dale who lives out in Hamilton, Ontario. We spend a good portion of our days doing work together over iChat, and have special cell-phone plans that let us talk to each other whenever we want without worrying about long distance charges. While I sometimes work from home, it's just as likely you'll run into me at a local coffee shop, or when the weather's nice, a ... Read more...

Looking For Some Writers

Hey everyone! Sorry for the lack of updates on here -- unfortunately things have been rather hectic. With that in mind, I'm looking for a few motivated people who would like to write on this site from time to time. Ideally you'd be interested in certain aspects of this city, such as music, business, politics, etc. If you're interested in contributing to this project, then please drop us a line! I'm also updating the framework of this site over the weekend. When it's done, some of the glitches should be fixed, and everyone will be able to ... Read more...

Pala Lago At Cultus Lake

As someone who works virtually, I'm always on the lookout for trendy establishments that offer free wireless access. Yesterday I was hanging out with a few of my friends from Vancouver, and we decided to head up to Cultus Lake for a few drinks at a pub across from the waterslides. The establishment is called Pala Lago, and it's truly a little gem (I just found their website too, and it's actually fairly modern). Without a doubt, it has one of the nicest patios of any restaurant I've been to in a long time. I sure hope they ... Read more...

Garrison Village

I went down to Garrison Village today to take a look around, and also scope out some office space. It's really hard to gauge 900 square feet when the construction is still ongoing. I'm still debating what to do, but it sounds like the rent in the area has been reduced a bit more, which makes it a bit more enticing. I did however learn about some of the tenants in the area. Here's a partial list of what's been leased already: The freestanding structure in the center of Garrison Village will be Waves Coffee, the first ... Read more...

Shared Office Space, Part Two

So, I've been tossing this idea around in my head off and on for the past few weeks. I received a few emails from people who were interested in possibly renting some office space if I were to go through with a venture of this nature. To give you some context, I typically spend about 50% of my day working out of various coffee shops. Not only do I see lots of other business people doing the same thing, but I run into lots of students as well, most of which are using laptops or studying. So ... Read more...
